Build Engineer (Level 1)
Price : Please contact
Date listed : 2009-Jun-18

Position: Build Engineer

Our Fortune 500 client is in immediate need of an excellent Build Engineer position in Redmond, WA

Duration: 12 Months

Culture: The team is very junior, collaborative, and open. They do not appreciate people that go off work by themselves for long periods of time. They thrive on a collaborative environment, so shy people will not be a good fit. Team members must be able to communicate very well, and that communication needs to be articulate and knowledgeable.

Responsibilities include:

Monitoring all SQL Server and component builds across platforms, maintaining software build processes as well as developing, debugging, and maintaining build tools if needed.

A SQL Build Commander will also help component developers stay on the cutting edge by trying out new build technologies and compiler releases before they are rolled out for general use.

This position will have access to people who know the past build systems and the current systems running on development machines, but will also be expected to identify their shortcomings, and create/run/maintain a much better system which we can carry across versions.

A SQL Build Commander will troubleshoot and solve production and test build issues as well as interact and collaborate with component team developers, testers, writers, and localization.

The build team is a cornerstone infrastructure team that the entire Business Unit relies upon. This is an outstanding career position in a fast paced and expanding product group. This position requires weekend and evening (until 8PM) coverage.

Additional Skills:

We need a cooperative team player who can work closely with their manager and team members as well as on their own. The ability to function well in a fast-changing work environment is critical.

High motivation, dependability, self-direction, sound problem solving skills, technical trouble-shooting (this is the most vital skill), negotiation, and decision-making skills are crucial. If this person finds themselves with extra time, they must be willing to drum up work on their own.

Qualifications include:

Knowledge of software build (compile/link) processes, knowledge of C/C++/C#, knowledge of Windows products (NT, Win9X, Win2K, WinXP, Win2K3) knowledge of source control (Source Depot preferred), and experience with writing automated scripts (CMD, PERL, VBS, etc.).

Candidate must be able to maintain a flexible working schedule and be able to learn quickly.

Web authoring and HTML, XML, ASPX, .NET, SQL experience a plus.

A four-year University degree is required, BS degree in Computer Science or related field preferred.

Prior Microsoft build experience is preferred due to there being very little ramp up time.

If prior Microsoft build experience, please provide the name of the former manager.

The manager is willing to look at candidates that are less experienced (i.e. straight out of college), but only if they are self starters, excellent troubleshooters (most critical skill), require minimal micromanagement, and have a very strong work ethic, though she would prefer candidates with Microsoft build experience over this.

Thanks for applying!!!
